The Ballad of Eldon & Clara
To the tune of "The Wabash Cannonball." Lyrics by Nancy L. Spencer
|

|
|
|
Verse 1
In the little town of Goble
In 1921,
Was born a boy named Eldon
The family's second son.
A few years later in Newberg,
Little Clara came along.
It's a good thing she was born
Or we wouldn't be singing this song.

CHORUS
So listen to the story
Of the life of our Mom and Dad
As we glide on through their history
Through the happy times and the sad.
Hear the tales of Eldon and Clara
And the many things they've done.
That wonderful special couple
Our parents are second to none.

Verse 2
They met in Northwest Portland
When Clara was a student nurse.
Eldon was a Mobile driver.
A blind date was their first.
Dek & Doris set them up on May 5th
And they went to Jantzen Beach.
It surely was a wonderful evening.
Eldon thought Clara was a peach!

Verse 3
They married in November.
1946 was the year.
They lived in a tiny apartment.
They sure were happy we hear.
Vancouver was the next stop
On May 6, Nancy came along
They bought a house in St. Johns.
On May 7, Denny joined the throng.

Verse 5
And now there are seven grandkids.
I'm Beth and I'm 21.
I'm Caleb and I'm the first grandson.
I'm Shane and I'm sure having fun.
I'm Mac, I was born in Malaysia.
I'm Tyler, the youngest boy.
I'm Maya, Mac's little sister.
I'm the baby, I'm Alyssa Joy.

Verse 4
They moved to Northeast Portland.
Then little Christy got her start.
And in this typical family,
Our dog Ginger had a part.
We all grew up and married.
Adding Don and Olive and Steve.
Now we're all solid families.
Thanks for the love we received.
