THE BARNES BAGUIO
Mountain Breezes in the Pines
Baguio is a resort community high in the mountains of Central Luzon Province
about a six hour drive from Manila.
Sometimes called the Switzerland of the Philippines,
it is almost that nice after several months in the steamy lowlands.
The mountains stretch out to the distant sky
just below the deck of our Baguio cabin.
The U.S. Embassy cabin at Camp John Hay, Baguio
has two bedrooms, full kitchen, TV/VCR and fireplace.
The Baguio Botanical Garden has many nice old trees.
Mac and Maya pose in front of ancient fern covered friend.
Olive next to an Ifugao totem at the Cafe in the Ruins.
The cafe is a thatched roof structure supported by the ruined
arches of an old mansion bombed out during WWII.
Fresh vegetables are the key ingredient in the local creations
at the Cafe in the Ruins which is run by Baguio artists.
Denny sits with an old carving of Balul the Rice God.
Denny bought him to guard the entrance to our Manila home.
Mac and Maya ride the very gentle horses at the stables.
Maya sits on the balcony of a cafe at Mines View.
Mac tries out his crossbow after Dad takes the arrowheads off.
He has his sleave pulled up to showoff his new silver bracelet.
Denny builds a roaring fire in the cabin.
It really is welcomed on a cool Baguio night.
