In the final quarter of 1997, Dive Club 854 members went out on several dive trips to the Outer Southern Islands of Singapore, namely Pulau Pawai, Pulau Senang, Pulau Sudong and Pulau Salu. These sites are seldom visited, because firstly, these islands are designated as areas for military live firing exercises, and secondly the currents around these islands are quite strong and very few local divers or boatmen are familiar with the area in general.
Our members who participated in these outings, having gotten used to the waters at Pulau Hantu were pleasantly surprised at the variety of fauna that can be found in Singapore waters. All the places for every trip that was organised were taken up almost immediately after being announced. Finally on 4 January 1998, two boats were required to accomodate more members, and a few had to be turned away.
The following series of photographs, courtesy of member Danny Ng, were taken on the second of such a trip, held on 12 October 1997.
