The Jardin de Cactus or Cactus Gardens are the latest in the new tourist centres designed by Cesar Manrique. There are over 1,400 species of cacti and succulents in the gardens and some are absolutely amazing. There is also an old windmill overlooking the garden which used to be used to grind maize for "gofio" (the islands traditional food supplement). The gardens were created from an old quarry and there are some interesting rock formations left over from then. The gardens also have a restaurant and souvenier shop clad in volcanic rock.
