Hi, I love your website. It is full of usefull information. I noticed you sail (Atlantic Crossing) with a fin keel...I have just purchased a Yamaha 33 for sailing and liveaboard on Oahu, HI. Have you heard of this boat or its performance offshore? It
s also a fin keel (with a skeg rudder). She sails very well but I wonder how she would do in the deep blue during an ocean passage. I am years from having the experianc to attempt this. Any comments?

Very much enjoyed your writeup, particularly the Atlantic crossing, and the Xmas piss-up's.
Having dual US/British citizenship, I understand the dubious American jokes; but do try to be a little more generous. They are not all bad!!!
Also, where can I look to see "crew needed" advertisements? Thanks again.

My parents just retired and now live on a boat in the Caribbean and I got a chance to visit them for a couple of weeks this past summer. I really enjoyed it and am thinking of doing the same thing when I retire.

A phantastic page! The combination of useful information and interseting experiences make this one of my most favourite sites (I started visiting a little over a year ago). I am currently getting some experience in weekly races at the local Yacht club
but have a long way to go. Keep up the good work & best of luck on your current voyage. I'll drop in now & again to see how things are going.

Thanks for all the info on your site. I'll be retired in 6 years and plan on living in the Carribean on a boat.
You may already have solved your motor problem by now, but if not, I believe that the rings are worn and exhaust gas pressure is building up inside the block, causing the smoke from the block. Its called "blow-by". This would also explain your lack of po
er. The pressure also tends to blow oil spray out of the dipstick hole. If this is happening, it needs at least a ring job if not an overhaul. Its just got too many miles on it.

Found your website on Floatplan. Great reading, especially about crossing the Atlantic. I was certified in Bonaire - the diving is terrific but restaurants & rooms are expensive. Most food except the delicious local goat is imported from Venezuela or the
etherlands. We met a man, a 50-something retired lawyer from Washington DC who was working on becoming a dive master. His was one of only two or three cruising boats we could see there in March 1998. My cutie pie & I have (are paying for) a 40 foot Allied
Wright ketch we sail around the Chesapeake Bay. Come visit - The water is unfortunately green and opaque, but the blue crabs are delicious and the variety of available alcohol is infinite! Computer work is easy to find and pays well here, too.

I've enjoyed reading of your travels. Hopefully you'll have a chance to respond before you and Annibelle leave for the 99 cruise. You mentioned that you thought Trinidad was a good place to purchase a sailboat. I'm trying to figure out a way to avoid payi
g US sales tax and hadn't considered the foreign angle. Can you tell me more -or- put me in touch with someone in the know.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading about your experiences in "Avalon of Arne". Thanks for taking the time to write about them. You've given us a great taste of the life we can expect when we begin our own adventures in the Caribbean later this year. We look fo
ward to reading further instalments, and perhaps to meeting you one day in an anchorage on one of the Caribbean islands! Happy sailing...
