Galvestone Island
I went because I had access to a 'beach-house', a sun-house on stilts close to the beach which runs all along the Gulf side of the island (as far as I saw). Galvestone town has an olde west-indies style with good seafood and a quiet atmosphere. However it's hot and humid! I prefer my beach holidays cooler or my sunny holidays drier. About dusk on the beach-house veranda-on-stilts it gets to be a wonderful place to be, especially if you have shrimps and chardonnay and good company. For the daylight hours in Galvestone: I recommend a swimming pool - don't leave it!
