Evolution of the Bus-stop |
How the design of
common things around us can improve our life? These two busstops are just opposite each other on the same street. The difference is enormous. The first busstop was arranged there more than twenty years ago. Its appearance speaks about many things. It's just historical evidence. Look at the small white scraps on the front panel. These are remains of tiny paper notes. There were no newspapers with classifieds twenty years ago. In order to sell old furniture or to find new flat people were forced to type hundreds of papers notes with the phone number on and then to stick them all over the city area on the pillars or busstops. Fortunately those times are gone. Ok. Let's cross the street and return to the present time. This busstop is much better, isn't it? It's also historical evidence but from the another epoch. It's smaller. The contemporary design is the same as in any other European city. There is a place for advertising poster. It is made of glass instead of rusty iron. And the people like it. But there is something from the old time. A dirty old dustbin instead of a trash basket. 'Small things make a strong impression'. We should remember this basic design rule if we want to make our life better. |
