About the creation

Why should I suscribe to the newsletter ?

I should perhaps first tell you what you'll find in my newsletter. Each month, when I update my site, I send a newsletter to all those who have accepted to receive it. It describes all the pages that have been updated or created on this site. It also gives you the opportunity to react and give your meaning.

If you want to receive my newsletter, just submit your e-mail address here: (the e-mail address you submit will only be used for the newsletter)

Why should you buy books on this site ?

I'm working in association with Amazon.com, the biggest book seller on the internet. This gives you already a guarantee that the books you've book will arrive at home !

Amazon offers you a wide range of books about all kinds of subjects. They usually sell books at very low prices and can guarantee a fast delivery wherever you are in the world.

The list of books you can find on this site helps you saving on line time. Amazon is a very big site and it takes sometimes a lot of time to find the book you're looking for.

If you want to buy a book about something else than Egypt, you can always submit your query to the search engine you can find on nearly each pages of this site.

All the money I earn when you buy a book here is use to improve this site and it helps me to pay my bills.

History of this site

The idea of building a site about Ancient Egypt came in August 1997 after having seen the movie "Cleopatra" with Elizabeth Taylor. I had always admired the Egyptian culture but this movie gave me the necessary energy to gather more information about Cleopatra.

Some weeks later, I had created a first page about Cleopatra and in the meanwhile, I had found a lot of information about Alexandria. So I decided to write something about Alexandria too. The problem was that the net was already full of sites about Cleopatra and Alexandria. So I decided to select carefully the information I had found to present it differently. That's why I also have written a page about the Roman theatre and Cleopatra's mausoleum.

The very first appearance of the Egyptian Dream on the net comes back to October 97. Before this date, some pages were already existing but there was no real website. Then I decided to build animations for my main page but this was obviously not a good idea at that time because it slowed down my site and nobody could reach the webpages anymore. I guess that was a stupid idea of me to put an animation of 250 Kilobytes on the first page.

In december 97, the Egyptian Dream really became a website with menus, links, pictures and a reasonable download speed. I didn't know how many visitors I had had so far so I decided to put a counter with statistics on my pages.

In the beginning, I had only one or two visitors a day and most of them were Americans or Australians. I decided to suscribe my webpages to 16 webengines but I didn't know how to use meta tags and this didn't bring me a lot of visitors. I have to thank Nikole Didier (author of the "Lands of Pharaohs") because she put a link to my pages. Thanks Nikole !

After some months of existence, I wanted to give a new birth to my webpages. I changed the navigation system and I changed the entrance page too. I have contacted several other Egyptian sites owners and I rapidly got more visitors. Several subjects were also added to the site.

Today, the Egyptian Dream has had more than 11000 visitors and had reached 10000 visitors for its first anniversary in december 98. Most of my visitors are Americans. As the number of visitors is increasing month by month, I take more time to update my site and that's why I try to keep a contact with my visitors through my newsletter...

On St-Valentine's day, the 99 edition of the Egyptian Dre@m has been launched. By the end of this year, the site should reach 35 000 visitors. This new version is compatible with version 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 browsers. The pages are usually heavier than the average webpage but it is because I try to offer the best information surrounded with an attractive design.

The Egyptian Dream has now two urls.

http://geocities.datacellar.net/thetropics/shores/7037 (that's the old address with a html site with lots of subjects)

http://geocities.datacellar.net/Athens/Atlantis/2761 (that's the new address with dhtml page and fewer subjects than on the older version)
