DARJEELING RAILWAY SET TO LOSE ITS HISTORICAL GLOSS
When diesel locomotives take over the mountainia, queen of hills and the rest of their steam-propelled sisters in a few days from now, the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) will lose a bit of its historical gloss. But Northeast frontier (NFR) officials feel the switchover is necessary to sustain the loss-making DHR as a world heritage site. Elated by the inclusion of the DHR in the UNESCO's new list of 48 natural and cultural heritage sites across the globe, NFR bosses are wary of the grind ahead.
