Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither was this site... Check back often and see it grow...
Our tour began and ended in Rome...
"The Eternal City"...
The city that "wasn't built in a day"...
The city to which "All roads lead..."
From what I saw of this magnificent city, it's all true! Rome is a marvelous mix of the ancient and the modern... a layer cake of the new built upon the old (and sometimes the new built with the same stones ancient builders used). And the traffic from all those roads... INSANE!!!
Our first full day of touring called for us to visit the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's and the Colluseum, as well as riding past many other major, must-see sights. St. Peter's and the Colluseum were switched because the Pope was holding an audience in St. Peter's Square. This compressed our schedule and made for a quite dizzying pace for us poor, disoriented tourists.
My advice, if you're booking a package tour, schedule an extra day or two to explore Rome the Rick Steves way. Even this is probably not enough to do Rome justice, but at least you won't feel like you missed as much.
