It was stretched and raised about forty feet in the air for all to see. It was our banner, our beacon for all to home in on.

We are a group of individuals that have come together to share our vision of peace and good food. We like to have fun too. That is why we try to make the kitchen experience as enjoyable as possible. We usually have main or "head" cooks, but our cooks like to bliss out occasionally, who doesn't. That is why it is always good to stop by and see if you can help. Be it doing the prep work (chopping veggies) or cooking. We'll love you all the more, even if it is bliss time and there is no work to be done(which is rare). Just bring a happy, cheerful attitude and everything will go kind. And remember, kitchen crews usually get fed phat.
At the national this year('97) our kitchen was located above the showers and accross from Everybody's Lovin Whatever Ovens. We had an excellent view of the Sisters and most of the Cascade mountain range. One of the most memorable sites was on July 4th. The sun had sunk behind the mountains and we had just come through an amazing thunder storm. We looked towards the east and there was a truly magnificent rainbow. "Rainbow, rainbow, rainbow!" I shouted into my handheld cb."Where?""To the east." Howls and cheers rang throughout the gathering. We sure did see a lot of rainbows that gathering.
Our kitchenis going through some internal reform. We want everyone who comes to our kitchen to feel welcome. It can be difficult to do. For safety and health reasons we try to keep peopleout of the cooking and food prep areas, except those with assigned tasks. Very large pots of very hot water and/or food are being moved around constantly. Plus with people wandering through dust gets kicked up and gets into the food. We try hard to maintain a strict code of sanitation. This protects everyone. The state health departments love us. We also have a commitment to serving quality food. This could be the reason people at dinner circle relocate their seats to where the Sundog food is coming. We do not serve glop.Want to see more Rainbow pics
This year we hauled in a piano with the kitchen. It was great! We had the kitchen under a huge canvas tarp, which was really a floor tarp for a big tent. The piano lounge was made up of an end section MASH tent with rows of benches for people to sit on.
It took about 40 people and 8 hours to haul the piano in down the blue trail. It took us about 20 people and 1 1/2 hours to haul it out in the pouring rain. I think the reason it took so long to haul it in was that when stoped to rest, it was played and good times happened. the fact that it raining and we we took the back way out made us just want to get the thing out. Breaks were a minimum. It was still fun, none the less.
The kitchen was located on "Restuarant Row". We had many fine people help us create some wonderful food. Thousands were fed every day. I just love to feed my family.
A Rainbow Story of the PA Gathering
Sun Dog is phasing out. We have gone strong for many years. We feel that it is now the time for us to step back. We have been noticing that there are some very strong kitchens out there and the need for us is not as demanding for us to be up and running. However, we still wish to play a part in the great scheme of things. We have decided to put together a tea, coffee, and lounge. Right now, we are going to call it "You Don't Want Any".
