"Hellooo there and welcome!" |
Nice of you to drop by! Let me tell you a bit about myself. I was
born in
the small city of Belleville, Ontario, Canada.
In 1993, I graduated from the University of
Waterloo
with a B.Sc. in Applied Physics in their fabulous co-operative
program, in which academic terms are alternated with four-month
work terms in your field of study. I stayed on at the University
of Waterloo to do a Master's degree in Physics with the Confocal Laser
Microscopy
Group,
which I completed in December, 1995. Lately, I've been doing a lot of international travel, but I make my home in beautiful
British Columbia,
Canada.
Mostly, I wanted to have this web page so I could show you pictures
of my cat, some of my travels, and my other passion (see below).
Yes, I've been getting into photographing wild mushrooms with my new SLR, sort of by accident. I started out by shooting wildflowers, but on a particularly windy day, I looked around for some static subjects and discovered the wonderful world of mushrooms, and I've been hooked ever since. Visit my Mushroom Mania page to view photos of 53 different species of fungi.
I love travelling. Nothing beats living out of a backpack (less is actually more!) for months. See excerpts from my photo album of India.
Out of all the cats I've ever met, I'd have to say that the cat in my life now, Zaphod, is the most awesome cat ever. He is one COOL CAT. He loves to go on car rides, and even sits across the back of your shoulders when you're driving (he just has to have a good view of the scenery). He loves to meet new people and check out new places. Around dogs, he'll stand his ground and maybe do a sniff test of the smaller ones. Zaphod also plays Big Brother to a younger male cat, Oskar. Zaph play fights with him, teaching him all the moves, and in quiet times, they groom each other and cuddle to keep warm. It's so adorable to see!
Zaphod is the most vocal cat I've ever met. He's got a strong but pleasant, clear meow, much unlike the wimpy meowing I hear from most cats. He's got a whole vocabulary of meows, which is great for communication. He's got a nice purr, not too loud, not too soft, and he even makes these cute trilling sounds when he's running! He also snores in his sleep sometimes. Neat eh?
As you might have guessed, I'm a cat enthusiast, especially when it comes to my cat. His cool habits are endless, but to sum it up, Zaphod is everything I admire in a cat - he's a great hunter, has a mind of his own, knows how to get what he wants, is independent, fearless, poised and graceful.
