It was the last Saturday in April this year, when our baby girl Ollie went into labor. I had just gotten home from working the night shift, when I took her temperature and saw that it had dropped. I knew the big moment was near, but then, I guess the not knowing exactly was part of the miracle of birth. Like the placenta. But I'll get to that later.

The Wonder of Birth |
So my boyfriend goes off to a job fair and my roommate had spent the night over her boyfriend's. I thought I'd be able to get a few hours sleep on the couch, while Ollie laid peacefully next to me. That didn't last long. She started freaking, I started freaking, the whole thing really wasn't pretty.

I called our old roommate at her boyfriend's house, panic stricken, and told her my perdicament. She came home, donner her doctor scrubs and got me through. We fretted about my boyfriend missing the whole thing, but he made it just before we saw little Josephine's face poke itself out into the world. Yeah, I know, you're not supposed to name the puppies if you're going to get rid of them. But, I had always wanted a dog my whole life, and now our dogs were having puppies, how could we not?

As I was saying, Josephine was the first one out. Then her brother Dudley followed an hour or so later. Finally, in a flash, our little Judith entered the world.

They grew up big and strong. Judith was the first one to open her eyes and get into trouble. Dudley had so many wrinkles, he was afraid to go down the stairs, because he couldn't see where he was going. And Josephine was just a bruiser, running around starting trouble with her brother and sister.

They've all found good homes and families of their own now. But they will always be MY little ones, no matter what my therapist tells me!
