Portlock Point Lighthouse, August, 2000
The Portlock Point Lighthouse was constructed on Prevost Island in 1896, replacing a stake light that had existed there for about five years. The light was automated and de-staffed in 1969.
This lighthouse, like the Active Pass Lighthouse can be viewed from the ferry that runs between Tsawwassen on the BC mainland to Swartz Bay (Victoria) on Vancouver Island. You can get a better vew from the ferry that runs between Swartz Bay and Mayne Island. It's not as prominent as the Active Pass Lighthouse, though, and is easily missed.
I last viewed the Portlock Point Lighthouse while on vacation with my daughter in the summer of 2000.
