West Point Lighthouse

West Point, Prince Edward Island

West Point Lighthouse

West Point Lighthouse, July, 1998

The West Point Lighthouse is located on the western entrance to the Northumberland Strait.  It was built in 1876, the fifth lighthouse on Prince Edward Island.  It was automated in 1963.  In 1985 it became a restaurant and gift shop and started to offer accommodations both in the lighthouse and in the new addition.

Tours of the lighthouse are available.  When we visited in the summer of 1998, I didn't have time to take the tour.  But from what I saw, with a constant flow of people at the top of the lighthouse, it is a popular attraction.

There is a fantastic sand beach near the lighthouse.  It offers good swimming, sunbathing, walking and numerous views of the lighthouse.
