Indian Head Lighthouse

Summerside, Prince Edward Island

Indian Head Lighthouse

Indian Head Lighthouse, July, 1998

The lighthouse at Indian Head was established in 1881 to mark the entrance to Summerside Harbour.  The light is built on a concrete base several hundred meters from the shore.  A rock breakwater provides access to the lighthouse, and protects it from waves and ice.

When I viewed the lighthouse from McCallum's Point in the summer of 1998, the tide was high and it looked as if the lighthouse was not accessible without getting wet.  Because of the distance and time of day, it was impossible to get a good photograph.  The lighthouse would probably be better viewed from the waterfront in Summerside, or visited at low tide via the breakwater.
