New London Rear Range Lighthouse, July, 1998
The New London Rear Range Lighthouse was established in 1876. The associated front range light is a steel skeleton structure typical of Canadian range lights today.
The New London Lighthouse is in an interesting location, across the mouth of the harbour from one of the most popular, and beautiful, beaches in Canada at Cavendish. There is also beach near the lighthouse itself with enough walking to keep one busy for much of a day. When I visited in the summer of 1998, I didn't have time to explore the beach, but I did see a number of trails that I will try on my next visit.
I did take time, though, to walk around the lighthouse and to view it from a number of vantage points.
