There are plenty of fish at "E" Beach. Electric Beach, also known as Kahe Beach Park, is located on Oahu's Leeward Side, south of the town of Waianae. This is a great spot to bring visitors and new divers. It's called Electric Beach because it sits in front of the big power plant. The best dive follows the plant's cooling water pipes out to where they discharge into about 35 feet of water. The two pipes are encased in concrete, this artificial reef is home to nearly every type of creature found in the Hawaiian Islands. Take Hwy 1 towards Waianae. Just as the highway turns to the north (past Kapolai) get in the left lane and be ready to make the first left turn when the divided highway ends. Turn into the parking lot. Once you get there you will see there is a small wooden sign at the entrance that says "Kahe Beach Park". There is a restroom and shower and picnic pavilion. The best entry point is just down from the pavilion past the restroom. A trail will lead you to a small beach with the cooling discharge on the north side. Be careful going out. It is narrow and there are a lot of boulders just under the surface waiting to trip you. If it looks rough it might be better to pass on this dive. The surge can make it tough to get in or out through this narrow inlet and the same surge will decrease the visibility. When it is calm this is a really nice shallow dive. (and it is usually calm) After the dive this is a nice place for a picnic. During the winter months the whales are within sight from land and you will also see some of the best sunsets on the island right here.
