This was probably our favorite city to visit in our European travels. The city has so much character, history, great art, and fabulous food. The art is not confined to a museum (where we seldom go), it is all over the city. Magnificent statues can be seen everywhere. The buildings have art work and paintings on them (not just in them). There is fabulous marble work on so many buildings, and even gold etchings.
Here is the famous bridge seen in most photos of Florence. These are real "buildings" that line both sides of the bridge, actually they are small shops mostly selling jewelry.
The famous Dome of Florence.
Many of the great works of Michealangelo can be seen just strolling around.
This is one of his David statues (yes, he did 2 of them (read your history books) one bronze and one marble).
Here is where Michealangelo, Galileo, and a bunch of other dudes are buried in the floor.
We got a lot of exercise in Europe, here we climb aboard our usual horse-carriage tour. We often started a city with a tour to get a quick overview before walking the streets (that didn't sound right).
And did I mention the food, mouth watering. We couldn't find anything here to eat that we didn't like. Certainly the best Italian food we've every tasted.
If you're going to be in Italy, definitely stop by Firenze.
