The BOOKS -- as I see it.
I LOVE BOOKS! (I'm not saying I am a bookworm though... I read when I have time). Some authors appear very"deep, intelligent, learned, artistic, etc." when it all boils down to one thing... THE INABILITY TO TELL A GOOD STORY, AND THE ABILITY TO HIDE THIS INABILITY WITH A LOT OF HIGH FALUTIN TERMS, VAGUE FIGURES OF SPEECH, AND WELL RESEARCHED BACKGROUNDS. Some books look like trash, but are actually gems. There are many books that are given rave reviews by so-called critics, artists, and the like, and too often, Readers check out what's hot on the news, what's in fashion/controversial(remember Salman Rushdie?), and not as to what they really want. |
A story is a story is a story, whether it be science fiction, or a story telling you on how to solve the quadratic formula through another formula, or on how to saw Pine wood. BUT-the story should tell something, and do what it is supposed to do, whether to teach or entertain(I do not believe in "to be something to while the time away with"... it just means the story is not good).
So what's my point? Rather, What is this web pages point? ECONOMICS. I have read a wide range of stuff, and a LOT ARE A WASTE OF MONEY! Had I read about the books first, I would not have bought them. In my own way, I do not want this to happen to you, dear surfer. Read on, and I hope this page has been of help. I'll try to keep updating during free time. I have also made it easier for you to get/order these books online, in case you get interested.
_RECOMMENDED BOOKS(Science Fiction)_
The following books are science fiction books. I have read books by Arthur Clarke, Isaac Azimov, Frank Herbert, etc. etc. and many stand out. Julian May , way back in 1986, was a never heard of author to me... I bought the Surveillance because it was on sale, and having no money to buy a Robert Ludlum, I opted for it. It created a yearning for all the other May books, fulfilled only this 1998. These books are science fiction masterpieces, a blend of the "today" world with a highly futuristic dreamworld, of a kids fantasy with a grown-up's manipulation, a delving into the less known yet fascinating metasciences, A study of politics with aliens, and alien concepts, and even a skillful weaving of bias. Surveillance is the best of this five, but the twists and turns of the other four nonetheless delight the reader. It is a surprising story that distinguishes itself with the usual science fiction stories.
THis is the story of a generation of people, both heroes and villains, who have acquired mental powers, five peace-loving alien races, Manipulation and other worlds, Politics that would pale any White House veteran. It is told by Rogi Remillard, a Manipulating and manipulated relative who was supposed to be in the sidelines, but nevertheless was the major player. It shows the hardship the Human Race had to undertake before being taken in as a member of a highly developed Galactic Milieu. It tells of kids with huge responsibilities, and how responsibilities are well understood. The first book was skillfully written, it had me addicted to all the others. The second one is a denouement but at the same time, a door to another story...(Do not read the last sentence! It &*&*^&%^% will destroy some anticipation thing in the last book.) The third made me salivate for the others, and the fourth a masterpiece of continuity. The last book is a wrap-up, a must read, in order to have questions answered and for one to really finish the story... but sadly it was rushed... especially the last chapters. It was badly done, where the end was just shoved as a mouthful to the reader.
