A BattleRager's Tale
One night at the Illianer Maid,
A Battle Rager served me ale.
I sipped the flagon, mostly quiet,
While Sastumonger told me his tale.
He apologized that his giant's tongue
Might make it boring or worse,
But I listened intently, sipping,
And set it to rhyme and verse:
>>> A Battle Rager's Tale <<<
Some days ago two warriors brave,
Sastumonger and Barbarus,
Were gaining experience shedding the blood
Of shopkeepers in New Thalos.
Barbarus was taking the hits
When two high-level Masters tessed
To the magic-less pair. Ravenlok,
Logan and the shopkeeper laid him to rest.
Although he is not one to run from a fight,
Sastumonger saw his death approaching,
So he ran, ran, ran to his home, Battle Cabal,
The Masters close behind him encroaching.
While first there were two, now there were three
Nearly immortal Mages, the warrior chasing,
And engaging in battle at the Destructor's room,
The defenses at Battle Cabal erasing.
'Fierce was the battle,' Sastumonger told me,
And knowing how powerful is the Destructor of Magic,
As well as the warriors of Battle, the Mages
Brought in more help. For the Ragers it turned tragic.
Now five nearly immortal Magicians fought
The defenders of Battle Cabal to their death.
The Destructor died, as did three warriors:
Torn from them was life and breath.
Sensing futility yet again, Sastumonger
Sought refuge in Lord Jullias' Shrine
Hoping his God would grant him protection
In this place holy to evil align.
Ravenlok and Logan followed the warrior
And in the Shrine to Jullias attacked.
Calmly and bravely the warrior stood his ground
And asked if they realized the fact
That, they shedding the blood of a follower
On holy ground, that surely the Lord
Would not be happy. Then he fled
To another part of the shrine, gored
And bleeding, pursued by the two Mages,
Their spells tearing him limb from limb,
Sastumonger the warrior dying in a fight with
Two near immortals more than a match for him.
'Then began what was probably the biggest
Chase in all Thera,' Sastumonger told me.
And he proceeded to weave a gripping tale
That at the edge of my seat did hold me.
He told of how the great Magicians
Tesseracted to him. With an endless supply
Of mana due to mana transfer, they
Did not need to give chase, but apply
Their mana to summon the running Rager.
They summoned, he ran, they summoned, he ran.
Until they ran out of mana they summoned,
And the warrior ran fast as he can
Over the same ground, again and again.
At last to New Thalos he came
And they tess'ed to him, and resumed
Summoning. (Summon, run, again the same.)
To the road between New Thalos and Galadon
The warrior made some progress in his run
From the tess'ing, summoning Mages,
And believe me, he did *not* have fun.
Were it not for the time consumed transferring mana,
Sastumonger would not have run through Galadon
Without retracing his steps against magic summon,
And he arrived at last in fair Tar Valon.
The Mages tess'ed to him again and he ran,
They summonned, he ran, summoned, ran, tess'ed,
And somehow the warrior reached Ofcol,
But there his legs gave out, and he needed rest.
Logan and Ravenlok tess'ed to him in Ofcol
And, finding him unable to flee from them there,
Proceeded to beat the very life out of him,
Then took all his possessions and protective wear.
His story all told, the fire giant
Drained his flagon of ale, as did I.
He waved and departed: His home was now threatened.
He needed to defend it, or, trying, die.
[Historic Note: This song became know as the Killer Song. As a result of this song being posted, Logan was slain by Lord Jullias and lost all his armor, weapons, and other equipment. The BattleRagers, especially Sastumonger, were ecstatic over it. The Masters liked the song because at the end of the chase adventure, Sastumonger died. Many who did not like the songs of bards came to like Esarvee and her songs because of this one. Shortly after it was posted and Logan slain, Sastumonger was denied because he had allegedly dropped link during an attempt on his life by another character, which is against the rules of the Implementors. (Denial: Locked out of the game forever.) Some people referred to this song as the turning point in Esarvee's career as a Bard, although she herself always thought that the song about MacMowren and Ella was truly her pivotal work. At the time that she sat in the bar drinking ale with the BattleRager, she was engaged to marry a Master. The Ragers knew this but did not hold it against her. Most of the time anyay.]
