I was recruited for the Crown's Guard, ICE's elite demo force, while in the throes of running a rollicking all-Dunlending MERP adventure full of crude sheep jokes and incredibly bad Hibernian accents. I've run MERP groups in the hopeless defense of Fornost, circa T.A. 1975, during the muster of the Dwarves for the revenge of the murder of Thror, circa T.A. 2791, in Mordor during the moment of the completion of the Ringbearer's quest, circa T.A. 3019, and during dozens of "interesting times" in Professor Tolkien's grand history. Roleplaying in Middle Earth is still the greatest RPG thrill I can imagine...and I can only hope that a company with DEEP pockets acquires the RPG license and publishes a worthwhile Tolkien game in time for the movie premiere!
I am a very HUGE fan of the ICE "adventure kit" based on Rolemaster called RUN OUT THE GUNS! ROtG puts the players in the Caribbean of the 1660's as privateers pursuing rich treasure cargoes. Take the GM's word on this one, folks: Fulfill all your childhood (AND grownup) pirate fantasies with this magnificently researched and presented boxed set!
