Basic Strategies
These are for use against computer, but most of them work in multi-player situations too.
Avoid placing griffins or dragons over your town, they will end up destroying your buildings during an attack.
Set your seige line away from your town, it prevents your soldiers from damaging your own town and gives them more room to move. It also makes it harder for your opponents to find your town.
Keep your army balanced, don't get griffin crazy. Too many griffins together will end up killing each other. And remember 3 Berserker can take down a dragon and regenerate before the next dragon is built.
If possible, keep your opponent cornered. Limit your opponents resources and take as many mines as possible. This will widdle down your opponent's resouces and give less room for your opponent's forces to move.
Computer usually send peasants to the nearest mine without protection when their mine is stripped. Place a couple of grunts in front of the mine and have a death knight in back to make an army of skeleton.
If you have death knights, try hasting your troops allowing them to attack more.
Dwarven Demolition Team are good at taking out buildings, sneak them is while you opponent is distracted.
If a Dwarven Demolition Team or a Goblin Sappers come charging at you, it best to kill it as fast a possible. Remember they instantly die when Invisibility or Unholy Armor is casted on them.
When attacking near units with ground attacking capabilities with a sub. Move them after each attack to avoid getting hit. Also avoid flying units, guard towers, and submarines or sea turtles. Remember the good thing about a sub is it can't be seen.
Making your transport ships invisible is good way of sneaking people in.
Place flying units over your ship, this allows ships with attacking capability to attack a nearby submarine.
Avoid using highly destructive spells in your town.
Scatter your troops, don't cluster them. Less people gets hit at a time from destructive spells, dragon fire, or griffin bolts.
Eyeballs and Holy Vision are good ways of scouting without getting hurt.
Catapults and Ballistas aren't very good at fighting. They are mainly used for their range and destructiveness. Only use them to take out guard towers and buildings.
When using spells like Blizzard or Decay, rember to press stop after your done. Don't waste to much of their precious magic points.
Casting Slow on units help make it easier to defeat them. Casting Slow on griffins and dragons really reduce their effectiveness making them easier for them to be picked of by archers and axe throwers.
Hate pesky Dargons and Griffins that ruin your village. If you have a mage, polymorph them and watch the critters fall to their doom.
Strategies used by other Warcraft 2 players:
Stuff other WC2 Players submitted, some of them are quite interesting.
Cast invisbility on a mage and have walk into a crowd of enemy units and cast blizzard on itself killing the units around him. Spells don't affect the character who cast the spell.
Surround an enemy unit with "Runes", then send up a unit close enough for the enemy to start chasing it. Watch him walk into his own doom. If a tower is surrounded by units. Cast a couple of runes, then cast "death and decay" on the tower. Watch out for paladins though. Death knights and Paladins DON'T get along.
Dont rely on archers for anything but air units and occasional rear lines support. Use knights or Footmen for the real attacks.
Just don't build those god damn dragons! Also, never leave an attack unwatched!
Rather then send 2-3 troops at a time it is better to send as many as you can spare for 2 reasons 1.More destruction that cant be recoverd from as fast. 2.With 3 man attacking one enemy you will hardly get hurt because the enemy will be dead isnt that better then 2 guys attacking one enemy and one of them being half dead..and thats precious gold wasted that cant be got back.
Use farms to wall in your peasants/peons. They will initially serve as defense against suicide missions and as a food supply. With guard towers behind the farms, it could easily kill stupid grunts that would dare attack the farm.
Suicide missions-Send footmen/grunts between their mine and their hall. It'll kill off all their peons/peasants, cutting down their gold supply.
Wall them-This is good against newbies that don't know the luber bug. Have a peasant scout and find the newbie, build a wall around their mine. While the newbie is trying to chop though the wall, you'll probably have enough peasants to rush 'em. Because it took so long for a peon to chop through the wall, you prabably have 5 peasants before they even get past the wall. Just keep building new walls, and soon you'll have enough peasants to rush them. What's 10 peasants compared to 2 peons.

YOUR STRATEGIES:
Multi-Player Strategies
Don't bother using these against the computer. Computer always starts off stronger than you.
Use these strategies in combination with your own. Following these to the dot, will make you too predictable.
One way to manage large groups over 9 is to have all the units follow a leader. This way you'll have better control over the leader and have less units left behind. Select 9 units at a time and right click on the leader. But this doesn't work well in narrow passages.
Set a Trip Wire defense. In most cases you can't waste units on perimeter patrols. Place scattered guard towers away from your base. It should serve as a trip wire. When it gets attacked, then you send you army to take care of the pest, if the army is too big, you don't waste any units. Not exactly good if you don't have sound.
If your enemy is near by, and you started out with high resources, then forget the town hall, build barracks and farms and take them out while they're building their town halls.
If you don't know the map, don't assume what the land conditions are. You might be wasting time and rescources on ships in a little pond.
Have good communication with you ally, you may need help later.
Low resource games take a while. First work on getting your resources fast and raise a large army. Still you must build some troops, you don't want them taking you out with a army of peasants.
Rescources are ment to be wasted. If you have resources to waste, have you peasants repair buildings being built to speed up the construction. The faster you have you buildings, the better.
If your playing a big map, frst concentrate on getting your resources, don't waste food on soldiers when you don't need to. Build lots of farms and peasants, claim the gold mines and forests around the map.
Forget about talking. Just work on building your army and destroying things. In muti-player games, chatting slows down the speed and gets everyone pissed off.
Don't use farms as a wall substitute in long games, sappers will easily take them out and you units left starving.
3 wave take over-This is very good at destroying towns especially in long term games where defenses are hard to get by. This is composed of 3 squads, demolition team, invasion squad, and the peasant/peon team. First start off by scouting the enemies base, fine out where the soldiers, towers, walls, etc.. Find out places where sappers can do the most damage. Then start off the attack by setting a seige line in front of their base just out of their visual radius. Send in the demolition squad, this is composed of sappers and demolition teams. Take out their walls, grouped units, towers, and as many things as you can destroy with the rest. Right after that send in the invasion squad composed of Ogres/Knights, footmen, archers, etc.. Take out the rest of their defense and kill off their peasants by having some of them stand in the mining route. While this is happening, send in the peon team and start building towers, and wall up their mine while you opponent is distracted by the invasion squad. Quickly upgrade the towers and be ready to send in another squad to finish the job it that hasn't done it already.
Don't try do everything on this page, if your opponents are real Warcraft 2 fanatics, they would have visited this page....
Try something crazy. Maybe you'll surprise them.
Now that you're no longer a newbie...
........Go now, test out your skills, show them you're not a newbie..
Kali-Best multi-player action around.
IWL-(Intertional Warcraft League) The best WC2 league.
NWL-Not exactly IWL, but it's a good league. Easier to get into as well.
