Nexus
The nexus is where you are able to build probes. Your probes return with vespene gas and minerals here.
Pylon
The pylon provides control and a circle in which you can build your other buildings. Only the nexus, other pylons and assimilators don't need to be built within this circle or 'psi'.
Assimilator
The assimilator allows your probes to mine the precious vespene gas. The assimilator must be built upon a vespene geyser.
Gateway
The gateway is where you are able to build zealots, dragoons and high templars. It should be one of the first buildings you construct.
Forge
The forge allows you to upgrade your ground armour, shields and ground weapons, such as the ones that the zealot and the dragoon use.
Shield Battery
The shield battery charges energy so that your units can recharge their shields in an instant.
Cybernetics Core
The cybernetics core is required for you to build the dragoon. It also allows you to upgrade your air weapons and armour, and allows you to upgrade the range of the dragoon.
Photon Cannon
The photon cannon fires the same as the dragoon and arbiter, and can also fire in the air and on the ground. It is cheap, but is also easy to destroy, and will not stand up to a large attack force unless they're in great numbers
Citadel of Adun
The citadel of adun is needed to build the templar archives and allows you to upgrade the speed of your zealots, defeating the range problem they had.
Stargate
The stargate lets you build the scout, carrier and arbiter. The carrier needs the fleet beacon, and the arbiter needs the arbiter tribunal.
Robotics Facility
The robotics facility lets you build the reaver, the shuttle and the observer. The observer requires the observatory, while the reaver requires the robotics support bay.
Templar Archives
The templar archives allow you to build the high templars and also to research the abilities of the high templars: psi storm and hallucination.
Robotics Support Bay
The robotics support bay lets you build reavers and to research greater shuttle movement, higher scarab storage and greater scarab damage.
Observatory
The observatory can upgrade observer movement and sight range. You also need this to build observers.
Arbiter Tribunal
The arbiter tribunal is required to let you build the arbiter, and to let you research stasis field and recall.
Fleet Beacon
The fleet beacon lets you upgrade the number of interceptors a carrier can hold, scout speed and scout sight range. It is needed to build carriers as well.
