Hatchery |
The hatchery is the structure that you begin with, and is the structure that produces the larvae. |
Lair |
The lair is what you upgrade the hatchery to. It allows you to build the spire and the queens nest. |
Hive |
The hive is what you upgrade the Lair to. It allows you to build the defiler mound, the ultralisk cavern and to upgrade the spire to a greater spire. |
Extractor |
The extractor allows your drones to take out the precious vespene gas. |
Creep Colony |
The creep colony is what makes the creep expand so that you can build more structures. It is cheap and can be upgraded to the sunken colony or the spore colony. |
Sunken Colony |
The sunken colony attacks ground intruders by using its underground tentacle to impale enemy ground troops. |
Spore Colony |
The spore colony attacks enemy air troops when they come within range. The spore colony also acts as a detector. |
Spawning Pool |
The spawning pool allows you to build the zergling and upgrade zergling speed and attack rate. |
Hydralisk Den |
The hydralisk den lets you build hydralisks. It also lets you upgrade hydralisk speed and attack range. |
Evolution Chamber |
The evolution chamger allows you to upgrade melee attacks, missile attacks and all ground armour. |
Queen's Nest |
The queens nest is where you research spawn broodling and ensnare. It also lets you build queens |
Spire |
The spire lets you upgrade air units. With a greater spire, you can build the guardian, but with just a spire, you can build the mutalisk. |
Defiler Mound |
The defiler mound lets you research plague, dark swarm and consume. It also allows you to build the defiler. |
Ultralisk Cavern |
The ultralisk cavern allows you to build the ultralisk. |
Greater Spire |
The greater spire allows you to upgrade higher than level two on air upgrades and also lets you mutate a mutalisk into a guardian. |
Nydus Canal |
The nydus canal lets you transport units from one point to another instantaneously. When you build one, you build another at a different point on the map. Then when you send a ground unit through the first one, it emerges out the second one. |
