There are many
famous people in the world, but there is only one famous floppy-eared
dancing penguin. That would be the character you see to the
right, Mr. Tomy the Dancing penguin.
Mr. Tomy became internationally famous as a dancing penguin, but
he now has his own late night talk show, owns several small West
African countries which he helps as part of an international
effort to help tormented penguins there deal with their problems.
He has also founded the "Mr. Tomy Baby Penguin Foundation
For Sick and Trouble Young Penguins" (MTBPFFSATYP). He is
loved worldwide for his inner strength to rise above all the
torment of his youth and become a big star.
As a child, Mr. Tomy was horribly tormented by the other young
penguins because he had been born with large floppy ears. None of
the other penguins had floppy ears and they thought that poor Mr.
Tomy looked comical with them. They would call him cruel names
like "Floppy Ear Penguin" and "That Penguin With
The Long Ears". Mr. Tomy somehow persevered and never became
bitter or resentful. He and his family lived in the northern tip
of Antarctica. They didn't have very much money, so they couldn't
have anything surgically done for Mr. Tomy's ears. When Mr. Tomy
did get a lot of money and could have afforded to have his ears
fixed, he chose not to as a reminder to all the freaks of nature
out there that if he could make it, then they could too.
Meanwhile, however, the tormenting continued.
In 1971 Mr. Tomy's family was evicted from their small home in
Antarctica. And so they joined with thousands of other penguins
and left the barren lands of Antarctica to the emperor penguins
who persecuted them. So Mr. Tomy who was only seven years old
left with his family to form a better life in the United States
of America. They were forced to live in a run down penguin getto
and Mr. Tomy was tormented by the penguins there too for having
long ears. Mr. Tomy and his family struggled to survive for
several years until Mr. Tomy left the getto and broke into
showbiz in 1985. He didn't have a glamorous job, but he survived
as a lounge dancer in Las Vegas, sending any extra money back to
his family in the getto. He remained an unnoticed talent for
several years and hung out with some bad penguins. In 1990 he
spent a short time in jail and when he emerged he was a changed
penguin. Soon after, he got his real break when he got an
appearance on the David Letterman show. After that there was a
great demand for dancing penguins, and ironically especially
those with long floppy ears. Soon he was doing very classy clubs
and even did a few movies. Now in 1996 he is a household name and
he still dances in stadiums across the country.
