Hey everyone who cares... I have decided to create a MP3 Player for my car. It will probably be a Pentium 133, running either Windows 95/Winamp or DOS/Mpxplay. I am in the process of interfacing a 16x2 LCD to suppliment the player. It connects via the parellel port and displays the Artist's name, track name, and other info. I have been working on this player for about a month now, and there is plenty of support online. Here are a few links I have found to be very useful:
I will be adding pictures of my car, lcd unit, and computer in the future. Check back in a week or 2.
Update: 12/12/1999
I have finished ordering all of the parts off Ebay and off of EggHead. Both sites were very useful and significantly cheaper than the local Montana computer stores. As for wires and other items, I have camped out in RadioShack. Currently I am waiting for a part to come in from the Sony Corporation. This part is essential to the project because it allows for Auxilary input into the car stereo. Besides that part the mp3 player is nearly complete. I still have to build the mounting device for the LCD, but that should be no problem. I went with a 16x2 LCD from EIO (as mentioned previously). It was fairly simple to hook up once I found the correct pinouts. While I have been waiting I have been bench testing the mp3player trying to speed up boot time. If anyone out there has any ideas to speed up boot time, give me a ring (email me). I am running Windows 98, stripped down. I may load 98 lite, but it may not be necessary.
