General
The name, a misnomer, comes from the appearance of these creatures. First noted on the Fragment Greven, these creatures have been recorded on at least seven fragments. They appear roughly as a three to four feet tall humanoid (dwarf like) beings with indistinct features. Their bodies, apparently made of rock/mud/sand are pliable, and appear to be somewhat fluid. They have never been known to attempt direct communication with any other human race. They should be considered very dangerous as they will abduct humanoids, apparently for food.

Habitat
While likely native to most fragments, there are definite concentrations in certain locations. Apparently, prior to the great cataclysm, the Mud Dwarves were a wholly subterranean culture, living in vast underground tunnels, far below the surface. The Cataclysm was devastating to their entire race. Since a large portion of their subterranean territory was ruined and hence unavailable to them, they apparently started making forays to the surface where they collect food.

Unusual Aspects
The Mud Dwarves apparently can freely move through normal earth as if it were air. It is my conjecture that they can modify their bodies to seep through the ground. What is known as fact is that they can appear anywhere, literally springing forth from the ground next to their victim. They typically travel in packs of three or four. As they spring from the ground, they will attach themselves to the nearest living creature and envelope it. This takes no more than a few minutes. Larger creatures are typically attacked by more than one Mud Dwarf. Once enveloped, the creatures disappear into the ground with their pray. They seem not to carry any weapons, nor wear any clothes or armour.

There have been unsubstantiated reports that a few individuals captured have returned with tales of vast underground cities in which humans are used as slaves as well as for food. These reports also suggest some sort of alliance between these Mud Dwarves and goblin-kind. But again, these are simply rumors which I have yet to confirm.
