As a gamer, I am entitled to my opinions. This means that while my opinions of the gaming scene in general are favorable, I am also entitled to let off some steam once in awhile by complaining, ranting and etc. These are a compilation of some of my posts at sages.ign.com.

Basically these are pet peeves of mine...

-----------------------------------
Renting CD games that are scratched...

This is something that we've all experienced. We go to Blockbuster (or wherever) and try to rent that copy of Wonderdude 7 only to find out that it has more scratches than a cat with fleas.

-----------------------------------
People using the word "nintendo" to describe all video games...

Ever go to Wal-Mart and hear a lady talk to the clerk about how she'd like a nintendo for her kid. She never says the actual system name or game name. All of sudden "nintendo" takes on a universal meaning.

-----------------------------------
Renting games only to find no instructions included...

Blockbuster is notorious for this. They simply don't enforce the rule of returning the manual. There shouldbe a significant fine for this.

-----------------------------------
Waiting for games that are never released...

If you know me by now, you know how frustrated I am with Konami for not releasing Policenauts in the US.

-----------------------------------
Playing a game while getting constant interruptions from "loved ones" while playing a game...

My sister just loves to call my name or come into my room and talk while I'm playing. The other day I was fighting Metal Gear Rex when this happened I got distracted and I ended up blowing my self up with a claymore.

-----------------------------------
Playing games against someone who doesn't know what they are doing...

It feels so cheesy beating on an amateur.

-----------------------------------
Being asked how to do a particular move in a fighting game while I'm playing...

Between rounds is okay. After or before the game is better. But asking me in the heat of battle is a no-no.

-----------------------------------
Putting your only quarter in an arcade machine without realizing it is 50 cents...

Actually this really isn't a pet peeve. It's more or less stupidity on my part. But at least it doesn't happen much.

-----------------------------------
When battery back-up fails in your carts...

I had this happen when I bought a used copy of Shining Force. Needless to say, I was annoyed.

-----------------------------------
Butchered sequels...

Twisted Metal 2=great game
Twisted Metal 3=$50 frisbee

-----------------------------------
Lack of innovation in a series...

Tomb Raider is falling into this trap. Other than the fact that the sequels have less and less to do with tombs, the only changes have been superficial.

-----------------------------------
People who think that their opinion is the only one that matters....

If you think a game is great, more power to ya, but if someone disagrees, don't jump down their back.

-----------------------------------
The systems wars arguements...

It's become so redundant it makes my head hurt.

-----------------------------------
The violence in videogames debate...

(See above)

-----------------------------------
Joysticks and buttons that you don't realize are malfunctioning until you put your money in...

This really irritates me. Some people abuse the stick and then the next unsupecting person tries to play a game of Marvel vs. Capcom in which they can't jump or tag because of this.

-----------------------------------
People who believe that magazine reviews are the final word on a game...

I've gotten sick and tired of people writing in to EGM and such saying that they won't buy the mag again because a certain game didn't get the score it derserved. No one should get that irrated about another persons opinion. It is totally irrational.

-----------------------------------
People who only look at the scores in reviews...

Instead of looking at the scores, read the review and take note of strong and weak points about the game in question. All that time that is wasted on fussing over the numerical score is childish. The best indicator of how the game was recieved is the text the reviewer uses.

-----------------------------------
Pack-ins with systems...

At least a demo should come with every CD based system. A cartridge based system should have an actual game included.

-----------------------------------
Systems that come with only one controller...

This is ridiculous. No gamer should have to buy a second controller. It should be included.

-----------------------------------
Systems that don't come with the RF switch...

I had to buy one when I got my PSX because all they gave me was an AV cable which I couldn't use at the time.

-----------------------------------

Closing...

Don't get me wrong... I love the video game culture but I also feel that a little complaining doesn't hurt and often leads to improvement when things aren't the way you like them to be.
