The Card of the Day is...

Chaoslace

1a, 1b, 2ndE, 3rdE, 4thE Rare
R Interrupt

"Change the color of target spell or target permanent to red. Costs to cast, tap, maintain, or use a special ability of target remain unchanged."

A brief rundown of the card:

I'll admit, by itself that Choaslace is of very limited use. It's not very often while playing with any old deck that I cry out "My country for a Chaoslace", or "Boy, that kelp token would look good in red". Chaoslace needs a deck to be bent around it, if not focused upon Choaslace. Why in the world would we want to change something to red for one red mana at the speed of an interrupt? Here's a few reasons why:
  • Circle of Protection: Red
In case your opponent starts slinging Hurricanes or Deep Spawns at you when you expected Fireballs, never fear: Chaoslace is here. Change anything from angry Mishra's Factorys to Aladdin's Rings to Polar Krakens to Drain Lifes red for but one mana. You can then brush away all damage from that source for one colorless for the rest of the game (usually).
  • Hydroblast/Blue Elemental Blast/Flash Flood
O.K., people use Desert Twister to destroy any one permanent for 4GG. A Chaoslace and any of the above cost twice the cards to cast, but one third the casting cost (UR). I'm really surprised I don't see this pop up more--it is very handy to destroy any permanent (and/or counter any spell with the blasts) for 2 mana.
  • Honorable Passage
This cheap, nifty combo will bounce any source of damage (spells, instants, interrupts, artifacts, creatures...) back to an opponent. Kinda reminds me of Reflect damage--that costs 2 more mana. Nothing's quite as good as sending a big Crypt Rat shot back to an opponent--out of nowhere!
  • Beasts of Bogarden/Soltari Priest/Narwhal/Sea Sprite/Knights of Thorn/Ivory Guardians/Hazerider Drake...
A Chaoslace on an opponent's creature will make it deal no damage to AND not be able to block any of the above mentioned protection from red creatures. There are quite a few more--one to fit into almost any deck. Chaoslace makes a fairly cheap creature stopper with the right creatures in play.
