Remember to hit reload every day or else the new card may not load!
Not all of the old Card of the Day files are working right now. All of the old files should be running within one month. About 70-85% are working now. Sorry for the delays getting new cards done too. Things are getting back to normal rather well.
In this web page, I hope to present to you strategies, combos, and obscure uses for a new
Magic: The Gathering card every single day.
The Card of the Day is...
Bad Moon
1a, 1b, 2E, 3E, 4E, 5E Rare
1B Enchantment
"All black creatures get +1/+1."
A brief rundown of the card:
Odds are good if you have access to any Bad Moons, you've used them plenty of times. Bad Moon is one of the more popular cards in the basic set, and probably always will be. Even though Bad Moon is technically easier to cast than Crusade, black's creatures aren't overall as versatile as white's creatures. I feel if you're going to build a black creature based deck, you must search just a little harder than normal to find the right creatures to use than a white/Crusade style deck. Here are a few of the creatures I have seen to work best with Bad Moon, not necessarily the "best" black creature list (Juzam Djinn is awesome, he just isn't that much better being 6/6--deadly/deadlier):
- Vampire Bats
1/2 flying for one mana is act forbidden. 3/2 flying for 2 mana each turn reminds me of an easy-upkeep Circling Vultures. Our little friends the Vampire Bats can turn into a flying death machine very easily with a Bad Moon or two and a little mana.
- Erg Raiders
Oh my, how many times my turban-donning Erg Raiders have let loose with a ton of damage early in a game when they can't be bolted! 2/3 for 2 mana is good enough, but when a creature's toughness gets bumped up over 3, the creature becomes doubly potent--being able to aboid many forms of red direct damage. It's like a safe Steel Golem or Phyrexian Dreadnought.
- Will O' the Wisp
A flying regenerater that can deal a little damage is invaluable early in a duel. Will O' the Wisp is just incredible with Bad Moon.
- Abyssal Hunter
You can tap the Abyssal Hunter to deal an amount of damage equal to his power to another creature. One Bad Moon turns this guy into a walking Lightning Bolt. Combine with Orim, Samite Healer to completely screw up any combat decisions your opponent makes. A Thallid could kill a Serendib Djinn blocking it (and live) with the hunter and healer dabbling into combat and a Bad Moon in play.
- Black Knight
3/3 first strike protection from white for 3 mana. Zing!
- Slight of Mind/Mind Bend
Bad Moon can work for other colors with a little help. Simply change the word "black" to whatever suits you best with Slight of Mind of Mind Bend. I feel changing the color of Bad Moon to say "blue" is a better deal than using Sunken City. Giving all green and red creatures is kinda rude.
- Deathlace/Alchor's Tomb
Both of these cards can turn any of your permanents black. Force your creatures to gain the benefits of Bad Moon if they want to or not. Alchor's Tomb is a good choice if your not using black creatures at all, being able to change one creature black every turn.
