Remember to hit reload every day or else the new card may not load!
Not all of the old Card of the Day files are working right now. All of the old files should be running within one month. About 70-85% are working now. Sorry for the delays getting new cards done too. Things are getting back to normal rather well.
In this web page, I hope to present to you strategies, combos, and obscure uses for a new
Magic: The Gathering card every single day.
The Card of the Day is...
Funeral March
Homelands Uncommon, 5th Edition Common
1BB Enchant Creature
"If enchanted creature leaves play, its controller sacrifices a creature."
A brief rundown of the card:
The first time I looked at Funeral March, my impression was it's an expensive Terror. Oh was I wrong. Funeral March is a nasty creature removing mechanism if used with a little care. You don't want to start the party early and just slap Funeral March on any old creature. Usually it is best to sit back and wait for your opponent to play something you could cause to leave play with little resources. Then is the time to play Funeral March--on something you could kill anyway. This might allow you to force your opponent to sacrifice a creature you would normally have great difficulty killing. Funeral March can also be better than Dark Banishing or Terror in that it can dispose of any creature. Terror and Dark Banishing have restrictions on what they can dispose of. Here are a few of my favorite uses for Funeral March:
- Teferi's Curse
HAHAHA. This is great. Put Funeral March on an opponent's creature that isn't really bothering you. Also give that poor creature phasing with Teferi's Curse. Every time it phases out, it will trigger Funeral March. This effectively gets rid of a creature every other turn. Not bad for 5 mana, 2 cards, and keeping an opponent's weenie alive.
- Terror/Dark Banishing
Wasn't I just ripping on these cards? If you need 12 cheap creature removal cards in an all black deck, add 4 Funeral Marches to your deck with 4 each Terror and Dark Banishing. Funeral March is like a pre-paid Dark Banishing in a way. Odds aren't bad is you do this a few times, your opponent will hesitate to play more than one creature at a time. Even better.
- Crown of the Ages
This is a good excuse to slap Funeral March on the first creature you can. Once your opponent plays a more "off-able" canidate, switch the Funeral March to the new creature with Crown of the Ages.
- Creature Bond/Death Watch
Even if you don't have many ways of directly killing creatures, if you start playing cards like Creature Bond and Death Watch mixed up with a few Funeral Marches, you'll confuse and startle most opponent's into not playing any more creatures. If you do have a deck chock full of creature removal, look out!
