"Put target creature card from any graveyard into play under your control. Lose life equal to that creature's total casting cost."
A brief rundown of the card:
Here's a neat new twist on Animate Dead. It's nice seeing the "new way" of getting huge creatures into play without paying much mana in every new set. Even though most of the creatures you'd be tempted to Reanimate have high casting costs, some are a better bargain than others. Paying 7 life for an Island Fish may not be the wisest thing to do always, but most of these creatures usually are worth the huge life loss:
- Nicol Bolis
This usually works out to be --"I loose 8 life, you take 7 damage, AND throw away your hand". If you look at it as your opponent net gains one life to have them throw their hand away, Reanimating Nicol Bolis is a steal.
- Deep Spawn
A 6/6 trampler that is very hard to kill is a fairly good deal for 8 life. Put it out in the third turn or so, and Deep Spawn will often win games all by itself. Better yet, Reanimator doesn't stay attached to the Deep Spawn--it's a Sorcery!
- Gallowbraid/Morinfen
Paying 5 life combined with these creatures life-eating upkeeps is alot to pay for anything, but in type 2 getting one of these creatures out very ealry wins many games.
