The Card of the Day is....
Chaos Lord
4RRR
7/7 First Strike
Chaos Lord can attack the first turn it comes into play on a side,
except the turn it first comes into play. During your upkeep, count the
number of permanents. If that number is even, target opponent gains
control of Chaos Lord.
A brief rundown of the card:
At first glance, a rookie would love this card (ooohh! 7/7 first strike!),
while some seasoned players would dismiss this card as being "uncontrollable".
But if we take a second glance at the mighty Chaos Lord, I feel he could
slip into a variety of decks. Without some means of controlling the
amount of permanents in play or a way of preventing/redirecting his
damage this is a weak card. So, let's take a look at a few ways to
keep close tabs on our 7/7 first striking monster...
- Spirit Link
Who cares if your opponent gets Chaos Lord every now and then with a
Spirit Link on the Lord? It would be worth it to attack with cannon
fodder when your opponent controls the Lord--either they take the
damage from the attacking creature(s), or you loose a weenie and gain
7 life.
- Circle of Protection Red/Greater Realm of Preservation
Just save a little mana just in case your Lord turns against you.
- Vanishing on any other creature, or any card you can phase out at will
This is a fairly easy way to monitor the number of permanents, seeing as
you can phase something out before you count the permanents during your
upkeep.
- Serpent Generator/The Hive/Diamond Kaleidoscope/Thallids/
- Breeding Pit/Goblin Warrens/Kjeldoran Outpost/Sacred Mesa....
There are many more ways to create token creatures than this. Whatever type
or color deck you fit Chaos Lord into will have a token creating card
that will complement the deck well.
