Remember to hit reload every day or else the new card may not load!
Not all of the old Card of the Day files are working right now. All of the old files should be running soon. About 80-95% are working now. Sorry for the delays getting new cards done too. Things are getting back to normal rather well.
In this web page, I hope to present to you strategies, combos, and obscure uses for a new
Magic: The Gathering card every single day.
The Card of the Day is...
Gargantuan Gorilla
Alliances Rare
4GGG Summon Gorilla
7/7
During your upkeep, sacrifice a forest, or bury Gargantuan Gorilla and Gargantuan Gorilla deals 7 damage to you. If you sacrifice a snow-covered forest in this way, Gargantuan Gorilla gains trample until end of turn.
T: Gargantuan Gorilla deals an amount of damage equal to its power to any other target creature. That creature deals an amount of damage equal to its power to Gargantuan Gorilla."
A brief rundown of the card:
Green has the best huge ground creatures in Magic. Gargantuan Gorilla is no exception. Overall, a 7/7 creature for 4GGG is expensive, but for a 7/7 trampler it's not a bad deal. Throw in Gargantuan Gorilla's "Arena-like" ability, and you have quite a bargain for 7 mana. This big monkey can win you many games if used with a little caution--this guy is quite hungry. Due to this card's uniquness, there's nothing to compare it to directly. Karplusian Yeti and Tracker are kinda close, but not nearly as large and don't have trample. Chim-chim isn't that hard to cast in an all green deck too...in type 1 you can easily get him out in turn 3-4. Since there is almost no reason to not use snow-covered lands, I highly suggest that they are all you use in any deck with Gargantuan Gorilla. Here's some things I've used with one of my favorite Alliances creatures:
- Binding Agony
Since Gargantuan Gorilla can consistantly deal 7 damage to any creature at least once per turn, try using Binding Agony on whatever poor creature will get pummeled by the big ape. Perfect on huge walls! If the creature the ape hits would die, throw Regeneration on it for kicks.
- Veteran Explorer/Untamed Wilds/Rampant Growth...
All of these cards not only allow you to get lands into play quickly to summon the gorilla much quicker, but they also replenish your lands that the gorilla eats for lunch.
- Living Armor
One Living Armor placed upon the Gargantuan Gorilla will make it 7/14--able to safely duke it out with a Paladia-Mars or Cosmic Horror. I'd like to see that suit of armor--gotta be a 100XX large (wide collar, athletic build). Now we see Gargantuan Gorilla coming down the runway in a lovely Thoughtlaced Living Armor/Sword of the Ages contemporary getup. Doesn't he look divine?
- Sword of the Ages
Speaking of Sword of the Ages, Gargantuan Gorilla is one of the easier nasties to get into play--and one of the safer for short term relationships. 7 damage--green damage at that.
- Circle of Protection: Green
There have been those times I wished I didn't summon my friend the Gargantuan Gorilla (huge late game Orcish Settlers for example). Just in case this monkey decides to go bananas on you, prevent the damage with your handy-dandy COP: Green. Might as well throw in your Hurricanes and Cyclones while your at it. Cyclone is a good idea--it takes 7 turns until it'll kill the gorilla.
