The Card of the Day is...
Floodwater Dam
Alliances Rare
3 Artifact
"XX1, T: Tap X target lands."
I've screwed with my opponent's resources many a time with Floodwater Dam. Usually, as soon as I say "I bring out Floodwater..." my opponent finishes the sentence for me by shouting "Dam". I always like having a few cards in most of my decks to spend my mana on by the end of my opponent's turn. Jaymdae Tome for drawing cards, Fountain of Youth to net some extra life, and Floodwater Dam for tapping my opponent's lands during their upkeep. "Oops, I guess that means you can only play fast effects with that mana. Darn!" There are a few cards that work well when you know you'll be able to keep tapping some/all of your opponent's lands, and some cards that help make Floodwater Dam work a little better. Here are some I've used:
- Psychic Venom
Floodwater Dam costs a little more than Icy Manipulator to use for tapping lands, but Floodwater Dam can easily tap many lands in a single usage.
- Kudzu
Wheee! The Rainbow Vale version of Blight can be a mean land-munching machine if you have access to extra lands and can keep tapping your opponent's lands at will. Land Tax or Lodestone Bauble are excellent ways of replenishing your lands.
- Orcish Mine
Speaking of land destruction, Orcish Mine is like a delayed action Shock and Stone Rain for only 1RR. You can shorten that delay quite a bit by tapping the enchanted land with Floodwater Dam (The mine gets three tokens when it comes into play. During your upkeep and every time the land is tapped, a token is removed. as soon as they're all gone, it blows up).
- Blight
Don't you hate it when your opponent doesn't use the land you cast Blight on, and they can safely wait for a Disenchant to come up? Heck with that, force the land to become tapped with Floodwater Dam.
- Force Spike/Force Void/Mana Leak/Power Sink...
All of these cheap counter spells only work when your opponent doesn't have much extra mana available. Carefull management of your opponent's resources (via meddling with the dam) can help make these sometimes unreliable spells more consistent.
