Having more lands than your opponent? Is that all it takes to control the mighty Monstrous Hound? That's not too hard to plan on--especially with red in your deck. Monstrous Hound's casting cost allows it to be in a deck with another color also. Red is good for shortening your opponent's land supply while green is great at expanding your land total. Monstrous Hounds might work great in a quick red/green "hit em' hard, burn out quickly" kind of deck with Kird Apes and such. A 4/4 red creature for 4 mana is rather cheap without a side effect that directly hurts you.
