The Card of the Day is...
Dandân
Arabian Nights, Chronicles, Fifth Edition Common
UU Summon Dandân
4/1
"Islandhome (If defending player controls no islands, this creature cannot attack. If you control no islands, bury this creature.)"
Double its casting cost in power? WOW! Islandhome? Ugh! Dandân is a unique creature indeed. Blue is not known for cheap, high-powered ground creatures, and this is potentially one of the best. That's a big potentially though. Islandhome isn't that bad of a requirement...usually only requiring one card to faciliate your opponent controlling islands (you shouldn't be a problem). I find the sheer surpise of attacking with your nasty goldfish good enough, yet whacking your opponent for 4 damage is nothing to laugh about. Here are some ideas to try to help along the giant fish:
- Tidal Warrior
These 1/1 Merfolk only cost one blue mana to summon. They can turn a target land into an island until the end of turn for the mere cost of tapping the Tidal Warrior. This is one of the cheapest means of keeping an island in play on your opponent's side. This combo was sent to us by Dave Sutter
- Mystic Compass/Phantasmal Terrain/Illusionary Terrain/Jinx...
All of these spells are great for forcing islands upon your opponent at different speeds and quantities. You'll only need to give your opponent one to allow your angry fish to wreak havoc upon your opponent's ranks. I'd love to see the Dandân kill a Durkwood Boars. How's that supposed to happen? The fish will gum them and maybe cut the pigs with their fins?
- Phantasmal Mount
The Phantasmal Mount can give a creature with a toughness less than three flying and +1/+1 until end of turn. A 5/2 flying anything is a problem for most opponents, let alone a 5/2 flying fish in within the first three turns of the game.
- Sunken City
Speaking of 5/2 fish, Sunken City can accomplish this for you too. Due to Sunken City's upkeep, I'd only use it with many other blue creatures worthy of pumping.
