Chris' Magic the Gathering Card of the Day!
Still under major construction
The Card of the Day is....
Fire Whip
1R Enchantment
Play only on a creature you control.
Tap enchanted creature: Enchanted creature deals 1 damage to target
creature or player.
Sacrifice Fire Whip: Fire Whip deals 1 damage to target creature
or player.
A brief rundown of the card:
What's the first thing that enters your mind when you first see this
card? Hmmm, I can make something into a Prodigal Scorcer. True as
this is, that would be overlooking the more devastating possibilities
of Fire Whip. The key to the power of this card lies in the fact
the CREATURE does the damage when you tap it, not Fire Whip. The
damage only comes from Fire Whip when you sacrifice the enchantment.
Let's peek at some of the more evil uses:
- Lowland Basilisk
Whenever Lowland Basilisk damages any creature, destroy that creature at end of combat. Seeing as Fire Whip would allow a Lowland Basilisk to directly damage creatures on its own, all you need is a good round of combat every turn. Don't feel like attacking? Attack with no creatures. Har har har. Sure, you're leaving yourself wide open for a nasty Winter's Chill, but you sadly don't see that card very often. Good for you and your whipping reptlie.
- Whirling Dervish
Have the Dervish shoot away at your opponent and grow every turn.
Watch your Dervish build himself to mammoth proportions in no time
with added Instill Energies or Nature's Chosen.
- Hypontic Specter
Also combines well with Abyssal Specter and Odyllic Wraith. It's
like a Disrupting Specter plus!! Multiple Fire Whips on these
creatures will empty any hand in no time.
- Marsh Viper
AAAHHHH! Two poison counters and you don't even have to sneak
your vunerable snake past your opponents blockers. With all
of green's ways of untapping creatures, you can pile a ton of
poison counters on someone quick! I once had 10 given to me in
one turn: once for the snakes usual tapping, 1 Instill Energy,
2 Nature's Chosen, and 1 Vitalize. Sure that's 6 cards all
together, but the casting cost of each card is cheap and how often
does anyone tote Leeches in their deck?
- Crown of the Ages
Right after using Fire Whip with any of the above fine combos
mentioned (or your own), bounce Fire Whip to another untapped
creature for more whipping fun. You get the most bang per lashing
with the Crown.
- Fungusaur
Throw Fire Whip on a Fungusaur and have your masochistic monster
whip himself every turn.
