Chris' Magic: The Gathering Card of the Day!

The Card of the Day is....
Orcish Settlers
1R Summon Orcs
XXR, Tap, Sacrifice Orcich Settlers: Destory X target lands.
A brief rundown of the card:
I feel Orcish settlers is the most mana and card efficient means of *controlled* mass land-destruction there is (next to Avalance, but that is an unpredictable card) Let's do some math.
- 1+1+R=1 land ---not that good, we can do that with Stone Rain.
- 2+2+R=2 land ---not bad. 5 mana for 2 lands--cheaper than 2 Stone Rains, and it only costs you one card to do it--the Orcs.
- 3+3+R=3 land ---for 2 mana less than 3 Stone Rains, and 2 cards less, this is a steal!!!!!
- 5+5+R=5 land ---11 mana to wipe out 5 lands of your choice is impressive.
The card advantage you can gain with Orcish Settlers is almost unparralled in type 2 play, and especially noteworthy in MR/VI/WL. I can safely say this will be a card showing up in tourny decks forever--they won't fade out when they go to type 1---cards like Lightning Bolt, Serra Angel, and Land Tax are in this elite crew. I feel Orcish Settlers will be joining them soon.
Let me extoll the virtues of Orcish Settler combos:
- Reinforcements/Bone Harvest
Clearing out 2 or 3 land earlier in a game will cripple most opponents. Doing again and again will kill most opponents. Both of these cards are tops in bringing back creatures from your graveyard.
- Enduring Renewal
Almost the same type of combo as mentioned above, except you will get your Orcish Settlers back into play for FREE (almost) with the help of Enduring Renewal. With Enduring Renewal in play, all of your creatures that go to the graveyard from play go back into play. You can sacrifice you Orcs over and over. Add Concordant Crossroads to let your Orcs burn up some land as soon as they come into play.
- Orc General
Yes, I have done quite a bit of damage over the years with such non-likely attackers like Magus of the Unseen and Ley Druid. Try adding Orc General to your deck also to add to the chaos. Nobody will think you'd sacrifice your Settlers to give the +1/+1 bonus to your red creatures!
