Chris' Magic: The Gathering Card of the Day!
November 1, 1997
The Card of the Day is...
Teferi's Veil
Wheatherlight Uncommon
1U Enchantment
Whenever any creature you control attacks, it phases out at end of combat.
A brief rundown of the card:
At first glance, having your attacker phase out at the end of combat seems like a bad thing. This is true for most creatures. There are a few creatures that work extrememly well with Teferi's Veil--namly the ones that would leave play after combat or at the end of the turn. The active player (you during your turn) decides which effect happens first--either the creature leaving play on it's own, or the Teferi's Veil causing the creature to phase out. Here are a few of the creatures you may wish to use with Tefer's Veil:
- Ball Lightning
6/1 trample, unaffected by summoning sickness is great---even if you only get to use it once. With Tefer's Veil, the Ball Lightning will phase out at the end of combat--and it will phase back in at the beginning of your next turn assuming it didn't die the first time around.
- Fog Elemental
With Teferi's Veil, you can keep this 4/4 flyer (for 2U) around for more than one attack.
- Zirilan of the Claw
Have Zirilan go fetch a hefty dragon. Make sure to attack with your dragon, so it will phase out at the end of combat (it won't be around at the end of the turn when it would usually leave play).
