Chris' Magic: The Gathering Card of the Day!
November 4, 1997
The Card of the Day is...
Cinder Giant
Weatherlight Uncommon
3R Summon Giant
5/3 During your upkeep, Cinder Giant deals 2 damage to each other creature you conrtol.
A brief rundown of the card:
This is another classic card that may look unusable at first glance--but can be really really good if we can keep a close eye on who he keeps company with. 5/3 for 4 mana....reminds me alot of Juggernaut (with a catch). Besides playing with a bunch of creatures that have a toughness of 3 or more, let's take a look at a few other things we can do with this beastie:
- Spirit Link
Oh my, the life you can reap with this easy combo. You can use this several different ways. Either play with bigger creatures that can withstand being near Cinder Giant every turn (and gain 2 life for each every turn) OR try making tons of cheap token creatures. It puts a whole new perspective on token creatures knowing you'll get 2 life each during your upkeep.
- Repentant Blacksmith/Freewind Falcon/Beasts of Bogarden...
Let your Cinder Giant pummel away every turn at these or any of the fine Protection from red creatures there are. These creatures don't mind standing next to the 300 degree Cinder Giant.
- Wall of Shadows/Uncle Istvan
All damage from Cinder Giant to either of these creatures is reduced to 0. Both cards are good defense any opponents attackers--while your Cinder Giant can wreak havoc during your turn.
