Chris' Magic: The Gathering® Card of the Day!

The Card of the Day is...
Southern Paladin
Weatherlight Rare
2WW Summon Knight
3/3 "WW, Tap: Destroy target red permanent."
A brief rundown of the card:
Southern Paladin will probably always be a common sight in sideboards. Southern Paladin is not quite good enough by himself (you can do better than 3/3 for 2WW), but killer as a sideboard card against any red/partially red deck. There are a few combos to use with Southern Paladin that can make him into a mean permanent destroying machine. Here's some of them:
- Slight of Mind/Mind Bend
Both of these cards can change the word "red" to whatever color your oppponent is using for just one blue mana. If you can pull this off and keep your Southern Paladin around a few turns, you should be able to destroy all/most of your opponent's non-land cards.
- Chaoslace
Is your opponent not playing with red cards? Then make their most irritating permanent red with Chaoslace. Perfect for disposing of a land, or an artifact--you can make anything red with Chaoslace!
- Dwarven Song+Instill Energy/Vitalize...
Make any number of your opponent's creatures red for a turn with Dwarven Song. Destroy as many of them as you have mana for by untapping your Southern Paladin with Instill Energy or a similar effect.
- Zhalfirin Commander
Southern Paladin is a summon "kinght". Take advantage of this with Zhalfirin Commander. Pumping up a creature +1/+1 for 1WW isn't the greatest, but getting a 2/2 flanker in the works is worth mentioning.
