The Card of the Day is...
Stone Giant
1a 1b 2E 3E 4E 5E Uncommon
2RR Summon Giant
3/4
"Tap: Target creature you control with toughness less than Stone Giant's power gains flying until end of turn. At end of turn, destroy that creature."
A brief rundown of the card:
Stone Giant's one of those cards most Magic players have a few of laying around. But how many of us have really tried to focus a deck around Stone Giant? There are so many creatures that he can hurl, I won't touch on all of them tonight...just some if the better ones. It's not like Stone Giant is worthless if he doesn't have anything to throw too...3/4 for 4 mana is pretty fair. He can hold off most early flankers and first strikers fairly easily, while able to dish out 3 damage himself on attacks. The thoughness of 4 is great against the plethora of 3 point cheap red damage spells. Here are a few of my favorite uses for our friend Stone Giant:
- Eron the Relentless
Eron's toughness is sure less than Stone Giants, AND he regenerates! An unaffected by summoning sickness 5/2 flyer is pretty nasty. Eron has gotten used to Stone Giants lack of subtlty and can heal himself from the crash landing every turn for just 3 red mana.
- Ball Lightning
Ball Lightning usually doesn't have too much trouble inflicting tons of damage--but what if you're opponent fields a tough wall early on? Stone Giant can hurl the Ball Lightning though the air for an easy 6 points of flying trample damage.
- Darkling Stalker
A regenerating Frozen Shade is what Darkling Stalker amounts to. For just 2 black mana a turn, you can make the stalker 2/2 and regenerate him. He's perfect for breaking up ground creatures when not flying through the air with Stone Giant's assistance.
- Hero's Resolve
+1/+5 for 1W is pretty cool on almost any creature, let alone a Stone Giant. With one of these enchantments on Stone Giant, he'll be able to hurl through the air with the greatest of ease such game breakers as Force of Nature, Crash of Rhinos(tramplers), and Diabolic Machine(regenerater).
