In this web page, I hope to present to you strategies, combos, and obscure uses for a new
Magic: The Gathering card every single day.
The Card of the Day is...
Delif's Cube
Fallen Empires Rare
1 Artifact
"2, T: If target creature you control attacks and is not blocked, put a cube counter on Delif's Cube and that creature deals no damage to defending player this turn.
2: Remove a cube counter to regenerate a target creature."
A brief rundown of the card:
Poor old Delif. Both of his artifacts are the butt of many a joke. I admit, they are both (cube and cone) of limited and obscure use, but Delif's Cube does has potential. How else can you regenerate a creature using colorless mana from an exterior source? Sure, there is Life Matrix and Draconian Cylix, but they are not as cost effective as Delif's Cube. Almost everyone can stand to have some extra regeneration in their deck but few bother to add a means of regeneration. Why not give Delif's Cube a try? Here are a few ways to pile the cube counters on Delif's Cube:
- Phantom Warrior
Blue has almost no regeneraters. Phantom Warrior is unblockable. Attack a few turns with Phantom Warrior early in a dual to accumilate some cube counters for later in a game--perfect for regenerating some of blue's heavy hitters like Phantom Monsters and Serendib Efreets without having to add a second color to your deck.
- Swamp Mosquito/Suq'Ata Assassin
These little creatures are great even if your opponent has a COP: Black in play. All that decides if your opponent gets a poison counter or not is if the aforementioned creature is not blocked. Just excellent for use with Delif's Cube. These frail poison counter creatures tend to be magnets for Lightning Bolts and Prodigal Sorcerer shots. Use Delif's Cube to thwart such attacks.
- Crazed Armadon
With a means of regenerating Crazed Armadon, you'll get a 6/3 trampler for just a few mana every turn. If they block the nutty elephant, they'll most likely loose a creature and take some damage. If they don't block, you can put yet another cube counter upon Delif's Cube. A silly combo, but it does use Delif's Cube.
- Animate Artifact
Humiliate your opponent by beating them senseless with an animated Delif's Cube. You will probably have to build a deck around this concept, but just imagine the sheer joy of getting to deliver the final blow to an opponent with a Delif's Cube. You can have the cube put counters on itself if it's not blocked (if you can untap it somehow--try Puppet Strings)! Hehehe.
