3U Enchantment
"1U: Take target white or black creature from your graveyard and put it directly into play as though it were just summoned. That creature now requires an additional cumulative upkeep 2. If the creature leaves play, remove it from the game."
Oh yes, the blue reanimator spell. It's not only blue, it's reusable! The small price of an added cumulative upkeep of 2 is pittance for the ability to put a choice creature into play from your graveyard without having a local enchantment directly attached to the reanimated creature...pumpable at that. Besides the obvious color changing cards (Slight of Mind) and all the ways of helping with cumulative upkeep (Adarkar Unicorn), there are a fair amount of white and black creatures that are screaming to be animated for 1U. Here are some of my favorites:
- Serra Avatar
Now that's a nasty creature! The earlier you can get this thing into play the better...hopefully while your life is still near 20 (it's power and toughness are equal to your life!) With a casting cost of 4WWW, summoning Serra Avatar isn't the easiest thing to do. That's where Dreams of the Dead come in. This combo was sent to us by Sebastian Leonhardt.
- Baron Sengir/Spirit of the Night
Forgiving the fact these cards are legends, they are some of the best all around black creatures in the game. Avoiding their huge casting cost with something like Dreams of the Dead is darn handy.
- Personal Incarnation
Once you're very sure your opponent isn't using such cards as Terror and Fissure, try dumping a Personal Incarnation right into play from your graveyard. This can be one of the darn toughest to kill creatures in the game if played correctly.
- Akron Legionnaire/Archangel/Seraph/Elder Land Wurm...
Here are some more examples of mighty white creatures you can dump into play fairly easily with the help of Dreams of the Dead. I can think of better cards to use than the land wurm, but it is fun to surprise someone with one once in a while.
- Pit Spawn/Infernal Spawn of Evil...
Most of the black creatures with huge casting costs also ahve insane upkeeps. Even though this can be used to your advantage by not paying the cumulative upkeep added by Dreams of the Dead to possibly avoid the creature's natural upkeep, this can be alot to worry about. The two spawns mentioned above aren't too bad to manage at all.
