In this web page, I hope to present to you strategies, combos, and obscure uses for a new
Magic: The Gathering card every single day.
The Card of the Day is...
Ardent Militia
Weatherlight Common, Portal Uncommon
4W Summon Soldiers
2/5
"Attacking does not cause Ardent Militia to tap."
What a beautiful sight an Ardent Militia is in a sealed deck game. It's a killer in limited play, and not too bad for constructed play. Having only one colored mana in it's casting cost allows it to fit into many decks, and any creatures that don't tap to attack with huge toughnesses are always welcome around here. Ardent Militia is not only a decent choice to fill up a heavy creature spot or two in your deck for variety, but the strange numbers it has and the fact it doesn't tap to attack allow for some "default" combos:
- Stasis/Dream Tides/Mudslide...
Having creatures that don't tap to attack while any effect is around that keeps creatures from untapping is really fun. Odds aren't bad that they'll sooner or later end up tapping everything allowing you to attack without fear.
- Transmutation/Dwarven Thaumaturgist
That power/toughness of 2/5 is just screaming to be switched. A 5/2 not tapping to attack anything is pretty darn handy. You can use Goblin Kites to create a non-tapping 5/2 flyer for fun (maybe add a bookie for the coin flips).
- Dwarven Nomad/Runed Arch/Tawnos' Wand...
Make the soldiers unblockable with any of these fine spells, and you'll still have em' around to block for you.
- Icatian Lieutenant
Yup, they're soldiers alright. They'd be a good heavy addition to a soldier deck...real good come to think of it.
