"Are you getting enough oxygen?" Space Ghost
The Card of the Day is...
Elder Spawn
Legends Rare
4UUU Summon Spawn
6/6
"Elder Spawn cannot be blocked by red creatures. Sacrifice one of your islands during your upkeep or Elder Spawn does 6 damage to you and is buried."
Ewwww! This has got to be one of the worst Legends rares you could get. I can just imagine junior saving his lunch money for 2 weeks to buy a booster of Legends at the local store, only to find the rare kinda sucks. At least it's out of print! I'd rather pack Mold Demons in my deck anyday, but I'll admit I have dabbled with Elder Spawn on occasion. It sounds cool, ryhmes with Deep Spawn (now that's a cool big blue creature), and if you're really lucky your opponent will be playing an all red creature deck. If you play against newbies and have no morals, you could use a foreign version of this card and tell your opponent you get to destroy a red creature every turn and you get to put a land into play during your upkeep...just make sure they've reached full growth potential AND you're bigger than them. Most newbies familiar with current sets would probably have a hard time believing something that is only 6/6 and costs 4UUU and is a Legends rare would be so...difficult to use. In short, I strongly suggest you look elsewhere if you're seriously thinking about using one in a serious deck. Trade it away -- they are worth something! If you're looking to humiliate your opponent or just want a good laugh, try these combos:
- Chaoslace/Prismatic Lace...
Is your opponent out of red creatures? Make whatever creatures they do have red with either of these fine spells. If you can get this huge fish in unblocked, it won't take long to win the game...assuming you can keep up that horrific upkeep.
- Slight of Mind/Mind Bend...
Almost anytime I list laces as combos, Slight of Mind and it's ilk are sure to follow.
- Homarid Spawning Bed
That's not a bad combo...turning the Elder Spawn into an army of Homarids. If you're all out of Sea Serpents and Giant Sharks, you could resort to Elder Spawns for lobster food.
- Land Tax/Untamed Wilds...
That's one really hungry fish. If you get to attack unblocked with Elder Spawn, you probably won't need to fetch extra lands to feed it. You should have enough in play to keep it happy until your opponent is dead. Just incase your opponent puts down a Wall of Shadows, you might want to add some way of keeping lands around.
- Guantlets of Chaos/Juxtaopse/Burning Cinder Fury of Crimson Chaos Fire...
That's the ticket! Give the fish to your opponent. It'll eat up all their land and/or deal 6 damage to them and bury itself. Elder Spawn isn't too bad to give away at all, but I prefer others myself in my "Play with my cards damn it" deck.
