A Letter from Gort to the Elders of Bryhn

After the ambush by Darvis Trollsbane on 27 Mawag, 1508, the adepts of Bryhn were greatly concerned for the safety of their village. Gort, in particular, worried that the elders of Bryhn would not react quickly or strongly enough to the threat represented by Darvis Trollsbane. When Dag left the group on 30 Mawag, 1508, Gort gave him this letter to present to the obsidiman town elder, Mikha. By all accounts, the letter was not well-received by the elders who were rather put off by the grand scope of Gort's ideas.

To My Fellow Rock-Brother and Esteemed Elder Mikha,

By now, you know of the great treachery committed by the ork, Darvis Trollsbane. As we prepare to press on with renewed urgency to Throal, I felt it best relay to you some ideas I have regarding this situation.

A trait I have observed among other Name-giver races is their willingness to the point of eagerness for confrontation. For many, an excuse is not even needed. Give them a cause, and almost all will be willing to march their spears forward. Another thing I have realized is that these political intrigues that mark Barsaive are as strategically fought as the great battles I have studied. With these two points in mind, I put forth the following:

When we arrive in Throal, we will press the king to send a contingent to help defend Bryhn. Iopos has quite openly stated their intentions against Throal. Although that is a great incentive, Throal will need more to send its soldiers accross Barsaive to deliver what will become an ultimatum against Iopan expansion. Make no mistake. The key to the survival of Bryhn is active support from Throal. The long-term survival depends on Bryhn becoming a self-supportive, economically sound community. To achieve both these goals, consider this option -

Place a call to our Liferock Brothers for Purifiers. Through our temples and contacts, put out notices for Questors of Jaspree. Further, send an embassy to the High Queen Alachia. Ask her for some of her advisors to oversee a great rebirth of the land. The Blood Elves are quite fanatical about the earth, so our request should meet with some level of enthusiasm. It will also be a shrewd political opportunity for the Queen, who will welcome this show of respect since she has had to deal with cynics and skeptics of her power since the reemergence. Along with her own emissaries, she will most likely dispatch more Questors of Jaspree since she seeks to get them out of her land.

With this assortment of earth healers, go to the Valley of the Dead and cleanse it of the Horror taint. Return it into a fertile fishing and farming ground. It is important that this is done for two reasons: 1. It provides the economic incentive needed for Throal to invest itself in western Barsaive. 2. On a more base level, remember that Bryhn's one water supply is a half a day north toward Iopos.

As for Iopos' reaction, who can say? Here are the possibilities - 1. The presence of the elves will stop them. Not wanting to come into direct conflict with the High Court, they will wait until the process is too fargone for them to do anything. 2. They will attack, thereby incurring the wrath of numerous rock clans, questors and, most importantly, the Blood Elves. In that event, Bryhn will have the support it needs.

If all goes well, Bryhn will find itself an economic and political power with rich farmland. As leaders of a great rebirth, we can bring new life to western Barsaive. Until that moment, guard well Brother. Increase the Guard and prepare the defenses as if another Scouge were coming. The people of Iopos are fanatics will will seek to destroy you as completely as any Horror. Most of all, beware of assassination and Horror-influence. There is something evil about that city and our escape from Trollsbane may unleash it.

Courage and decisiveness will be needed regardless of what paths you take. May the Liferock give you the wisdom and strength to see our people through to safety and freedom.

Gort
