Limac the Boisterous
Hero of Kratas, Leader of the Elost Cult, Liberator of Seinragh
The nickname "Boisterous" must be an irony, as so little fact exists concerning arguably one of the most legendary post-Scourge figures to emerge from Kratas. Tales abound and no citizen of the Thieves City is without some version of his story. Therein lies the problem. Many of the tales are similar, yet within them exist glaring differences, to a degree that no legitimate scholar can put them down on paper without seriously damaging his reputation.
Beyond the obvious ties to Sanjuro, there is one cultural development linking Limac to another important figure in the Bearers' past - Rokk Krinn. The reputations of both men was such that, during the period after Rokk Krinn left Kratas for Cara Fahd, it became a kind of contest/shouting match as to who was the bolder warrior and the better storyteller. A combination of orkish honor versus city pride (a rarity for Kratas, I would think) fueled this comparison.
One very popular rumor has it that the storytelling of both men reached such a fever pitch during the time they both resided in Kratas that Garlthik resolved to expel one of them because the abundance of varying tales confused and cluttered up even his mighty spy network. Since Rokk Krinn made it clear he was passing through on his way to Cara Fahd, it made Garlthik's choice all the easier and thus Rokk became a wanted man. Of course, the reason Krinn became a criminal is because his recruiting efforts on the behalf of Krathas Gron sapped away Garlthik's racial power base. Still, the rumor remains quite popular. The most enduring link between the two men is a play chronicling a chance encounter and conversation between the two men shortly before Krinn left for Cara Fahd. It is presumably a work of fiction, although it remains widely performed in Kratas, and has begun to be performed throughout Barsaive, most notably in Cara Fahd where Sanjuro held a premiere performance in the city of Viln.
What is known of Limac (or at least generally agreed and chronicled enough that we can reasonably put it down) is that he was born in Kratas between 30 and 40 years ago, and was a prodigy of wit and steel, quickly gaining a reputation for himself as both a swordsman and charaismatic orator. He never joined any political factions, and made a name for himself as a mercenary/explorer for hire. It is unknown who taught him the Warrior discipline, but we can reasonably place that he has been a warrior adept for at least ten years, as was reported along with the first news of the new Cult of Elost.
Of the Elost Cult, early propaganda received by the Library in 1500 (dated 1499 – V.S.) said that Limac discovered the Sword of Elost while on an expedition in the Ukstrecht region. Upon first weaving a thread, the writing described a sort of spiritual transformation that Limac underwent, linking his spirit and abilities with those of the legendary Habroc. While the veracity of such statements leave much to be desired, there is little doubt that something about the nature of the items had some form of compelling magic, driving their posessors to seek out the others. Another Librarian met with Limac in 1501 when he came to Throal to research Elost. The Librarian recalls Limac being extraordinarily thorough and patient, exhausting every avenue of investigation before leaving. His dedication proved successful, and in 1503 he gained the Boots of Elost. From there, though, he would have no further successes until Sanjuro uncovered two more items of Elost and the two men eventually eventually teamed up to complete their mutual quest.
These are the barest facts, but that is to be expected when a man shrouds himself in myths and lives in a city of greys and lies.
Because of this, Limac's section in this work was one of the last to be completed. With the Theran War, the Iopos Conflict, and the ramifications of the Bearers' return from Shis'r'tal piling on top of one another, it was many months before Caarad Surestrider could reach the newly formed city of Seinragh, sprung from the kaer of the same name, where Limac now heads up a ruling council.
